Game randomly crashes every 10 minutes or less and i get this error message. Didn't happen before and i'm 70 hours into the game. It has become basically unplayable.
I'm playing on a gtx 1060 notebook with an Intel i7 processor so i do meet the hardware requirments (all graphical settings in game were custom but the crashes continue to happen now that i'm using GeForce raccomended settings as well). Tried with win8 compatibility mode and "run as Administrator" but nothing improved the situation.
Posted this already on the Steam forums but posting here as well so maybe it can get more visibility.

This isn't one I've seen before, I don't think. (It sounds different than the previous "Failed to initialize renderer" that we've seen before).
Google says that this error is usually a DirectX driver problem. Have you tried re-installing/updating that, and making sure Direct3D is enabled?

I think you'd need to check your dxdiag to see what version you're running, and see if there's an updated version?
Apologies, I'm not a tech person.. I just comb through the forum looking for issues to send in to the production team for bug squashing purposes!

Ok, just checked and it seems there are no newer versions. Thanks for the attention and let's hope we'll get a solution soon

Anyone still experiencing this, please report back with:
What version of DirectX are you running?
Is Direct3D enabled?
Do you have a controller plugged in when the error happens?
Are you running a Windows Insider build?
Does this happen immediately upon launching the game, or are you able to play for a bit?
If you are able to play, at what point does the error occur?

I found a fix for my problem, try deleating the file"Render" in:
C:\Users\(User)\Documents\WB Games\Shadow of War
i think it stems from altering the wrong video setting

I'm having the same problem. It happens immediately upon connecting a controller. It never occured before today, and it's the first time in at least a month that I've been able to play .

Is there any fix for this?
I am getting the same issue after playing some time. I have the latest nvidia driver and also did the settings as mentioned above
my graphics card: GTX 970
Now cannot play. Please let me know when you will fix this issue?

For me the trick was to change screens (I use gaming laptop connected to TV by HDMI) from duplicatie to only on 2nd (TV) screen. Since then no error message back!
(And it solved a problem with Uplay games as well...)
