New User Guide

[ Edited ]

WB Games and Monolth welcome you to the official WBPlay Middle-earth Shadow of War forums!

Think of this post as a New Member Guide (but you’ll be able to get tons of knowledge from this as you spend more time here, so check back every once in while).

As a member of these forums, you’ll be joining the best place to find official community events and giveaways, opportunities to talk with members of the development studio team, exclusive content, the latest news on Mortal Kombat, Batman: Arkham, DC Legends, Injustice, Middle-earth: Shadow of War and all WB titles.

To help you get started in the forums and understand how our forum works, we’ve created some steps below as a quick start guide to posting in the game communities.

Before creating a thread, use the search box under the right of the forum header to search for the topic you wished to cover. There might already be an active conversation you can join!

If you have a question for a specific user outside the subject of a topic, please send them a private message.

If you want a user involved in a topic, you can use a mention by putting their user name after an @ symbol. For example, @Aarone88

Please keep all discussions on topic for the board. All basic topics live in “General Discussion”. You can find a list of our full forums available here if you wish to discuss other titles.

If a post appears to be offensive, trolling or spam, please report it using the Warning Symbol on the post in question.

Please ensure you place all spoilers within spoiler tags – even the smallest piece of story could be considered a spoiler by a member, so be considerate!

Members of our forum are also rewarded with additional features and ranks the more they positively contribute our community! You can learn about those features HERE.

If you haven’t already created a WBPLAY Account, you’ll need one to get posting. You can learn more about the in-game rewards received for owning a WBPLAY Account here, or get started creating your account by clicking HERE.

CODE OF CONDUCT:

In order to ensure our community is an enjoyable and welcoming place as possible to discuss all things about your titles, we also have our Community Guidelines for behaviour on our forums. The Kudos System

Many of you have probably noticed this icon that appears after a new post: . When clicked, the Button on the right gives the creator of the post a Kudos. The more people that like the post and mark it as such, the more Kudos the author will receive. It’s a great way for you as a member to recognize the contributions of fellow members.

Some of our members who have been with us since the launch of the community may have noticed that we have ranks based on a member’s time and activity in the forum. For instance, if you have been registered for so many days days and have made about 5 posts, you would move up from a “Noob” to a “Mini Noob.”

To make sure members in the community who choose never to post can also get some of the bonus unlocks like Custom Avatars, @member call outs, and Image Posting abilities, we have adjusted our system to allow users to rank up based on Kudos giving activity.  So, for those voracious readers of threads, if you give Kudos to the best posts, not only are you helping promote some of the best activity, you’ll be ranking up as well.

We have also configured the system so that those members who receive Kudos will also be able to rank up faster as well. Kudos can represent a win-win-win for the writer, the reader, and the community.

Finally, we have two more perks.

  1. Kudos Bonuses for high standing members in the community. The higher in the community a member rises, the more value their Kudos will have. It will never be too much, but for the higher levels, it might be double or triple the value of a new member. Those members who are in the community the longest will be able to bring great content into the fold, helping to ensure the best posts are being seen more often.
  2. Kudo Badges- Members will recieve badges based on how many kudos they have recieved

Now, for all of those members in the community who might be worried about disingenuous members gaming the system, “win-trading,” or falsely altering their Kudos presence… We as admins and mods have the ability to track anomalies in this system and override actions.  We hope it never comes to this, but the Community Team can revoke, void, and in extreme cases, reset a member’s Kudos (likely accompanying a temporary suspension) should a member act outside the spirit and rules of the community.

Hackers and How You Can Help

We've recently witnessed an increased amount of discussion around users who are believed to be hacking or using illegitimate means to compete in Online Battles. As a result, we realized that we've done an unsatisfactory job in educating you all on how we act on player suspicions. As a result, we've created this brief guide to give a bit of info on our banning processes, and to also give some better guidance on how you can all help us even the playing field for everyone.

Some Info on Suspension
There are a few systems in place to avoid having illegitimate players be rewarded in Online Battles. Firstly is the autobanning system, which is designed to ban users whose accounts have been detected by the system as being modified or altered in an illegitimate way. As the name implies, this system is automatic, which means that there is no one actively banning these users.

Another way that we even the field is by manually going in near the end of a season and banning those users who have been discovered as using hacks or other illegitimate means to climb the leaderboard. This process is for those users who practice a method that circumvents our autobanning system. If it's possible, we thereafter try to include a way for our autobanning system to also detect these users as well, but it's not always as easy as that. There are some players who continue to try and circumvent our system, developing new ways to have an advantage over other players using illegitimate means. As a result, we sometimes miss a few. That's where you come in.

How You Can Help
We understand the frustration in encountering a player who may be leveraging hacks or other unscrupulous means to gain an unfair advantage. That said, the least successful (and potentially harmful) option is to publish your suspicions regarding another user's legitimacy on these forums. It makes it more difficult for the information to get to our team, and also creates potentially undue suspicion and hostility toward players who may very well be legitimate. Our team here has tools available that allow us to dive into an account and check for sure whether or not a user's account has been modified using illegitimate means.

If you suspect that a player is using hacks or exploits to climb the leaderboards, then your best option is always to reach out to our Support Center, and let them know that you suspect a player of cheating. We'll investigate the case, and if it's decided that the user has been using illegitimate means, then we will move forward with appropriate action. Please keep in mind that any action we take with an account is completely confidential, which means that we're unable to share the results of our investigation, including whatever action we may decide to take.

To contact Support, whether to report hackers or to report any other issues, please visit the link below and provide whatever information you feel is applicable. We'll make sure a take a look.

ADVANCED POSTING TIPS:

Once you’ve reached a certain rank on the forums, you’ll have access to HTML editing for the first time when creating a thread or post. While many of the standard post features available will be quicker and easier to use, HTML access unlocks a few new tricks to make your posts even better. Here’s a couple of our favorite things to do with HTML below:

Finding HTML Editing

When creating a post or topic, you can find HTML editing on the tabs above the text entry box for the post. It’ll look a little something like this:

Embed YouTube Videos

Rather than having to upload or link out to a video elsewhere, you can now embed videos from YouTube straight into your posts! Here’s an example below.

To embed a video, find the YouTube video you want to use, click “Share” below the video, and select Embed. You should see some code in a text box – copy it. Here’s a code as an example of how it will look: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wsf78BS9VE0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Paste the code in the HTML tab of your post and your video is embedded. You can return to editing your post in Rich Text mode and the video box will remain.

Quote Multiple Users

If you want to respond to multiple users in one post, copy and paste their text into Rich Text format manually. Switch to HTML, find their post in the text box and add the following code:

<blockquote> at the beginning of their post text

</blockquote> at the end of their post text

This will help you reply to multiple people in an easy to read way. Added tip - Don’t forget to tag them in your post so they are notified you responded!

Welcome and Have Fun!
